Our affiliated clinics distinguish themselves from clinics in the Netherlands. Below we list the main differences:
|
The level or care, method of the treatment centres and the individual approach; For the most part the therapists, counsellors, doctors and psychiatrists that work in these centres are recovering addicts. In the Netherlands ‘hands-on’ expertise is not considered an advantage. |
|
It is possible to stay with like-minded people with a comparable social background. Identification with fellow sufferers will than be greater which positively effects recovery. |
|
The integral treatment of psychosocial problems such as depression, burn out and/or fear disorders and trauma can be combined with treatment for addiction. |
|
A holistic approach, the whole person is looked after, not just the disease. |
|
The partner and family are involved in the treatment program, as this positively impacts the recovery of the client. |
|
The client is treated with respect, as an equal, without judgement. |
|
The clinics have a high level of comfort and are located in unique places. |
|
Some of the clinics work according to the 12 Step Minnesota model; this twelve step treatment approach is a very successful one, and is not very well known in the Netherlands. |
|
During the residential treatment, we stay in contact with the client, as well as with the counsellors in the clinic. This way we are always aware of the progress of the treatment. If you wish, we can also inform the partner or family of any developments. |

In case of chemical dependency, the first step in a residential treatment program is detoxification . This phase usually takes about 5 to 10 days. This detoxification will take place under medical supervision. This client will receive medication to withstand the physical pain of withdrawal symptoms. |
| |

This is the first therapeutic phase which comprises of at least 28 days. During this time the client will undergo intensive, individual therapy. Furthermore the client will work on physical recovery through exercise and nutrition. During this phase the focus lies on breaking through denial and the underlying issues and pain that have lead to the addiction. |
| |

The second phase lasts 2 months to a year, depending on the advice that is given by the clinic and your personal choice. The second phase follows directly on to the first phase. Not everybody chooses this follow up treatment, but clients that have been able to schedule the time for it have found this second phase very positive and helpful. This phase prepares the client for daily life, before they go home and are faced with day to day issues. |

| |
The client is able to make owns own all that has been learned in the first four weeks. The client learns to see their own possibilities and how to use these positively, but also to handle negative experiences or emotions. The dynamic that exists between the clients is a reflection of interactions in normal life. The clients are confronted with their own behaviours and blind spots by fellow clients and counsellors.
Residential treatment in a clinic is not always necessary. First make an appointment for an intake. After this we write a personal Plan of Approach from the first session to your aftercare.

For family members of a person that denies his or her addictions problems, Counselling Center Changes offers family intervention. The goal of this intervention is to convince the person of the necessity to accept help.
For younger people there are special clinics as well as special programs. This also pertains to people with an eating disorder. |
| |

The first year of recovery tends to be the most difficult. It’s a time when the patient experiences high levels of stress and must develop the coping skills to deal with it clean and sober. The brain rebalances its neurochemistry. Organs have to repair their functioning. Adjustments to the family and work compete for time needed to establish a firm foundation in a recovery fellowship. Research shows that patients who take their aftercare program seriously stay clean and sober and go on to realize their full life potential. |
