To truly gain recovery from the disease the entire (family) mechanism needs to be looked at and healed. Addiction is a family disease which effects everybody in the family. The addict themselves suffer from the negative consequences of the addiction and the family suffers from the stress these consequences bring. Often the family enables the addict to continue to use or drink because they try to solve the problems for the addict, hence avoiding the negative consequences.
This maintains the addiction and does not give the addict the chance to reach the bottom they need to reach in order to start the process of recovery. This does not mean, for instance, to abandon your child, but to learn to let go, with love. This is a process in which you could be assisted.
